Abstract
1442497 Discharge lamps THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 Feb 1975 [1 March 1974] 9384/74 Heading H1D To allow the electrode 11 leads 12 of a quartz tube 10 discharge lamp to pass through the wall 15 via Mo foils 13 without the exposure of the outer ends of the foils at 350‹ C. or higher to air, leading to oxidation, each foil 13 is conventionally sealed but is joined to a Mo conductor 14 inside the wall thickness, which conductor is externally coupled to a Cu conductor 16 passing through a quartz extension tube 17 in which it is centralized by a powder of Mo or of preferentially oxidizing metal, e.g. Cu or Al/Zr, and emerges through a cap 18 of heat resisting elastomer, e.g. self-cured silicone rubber. Both electrode leads may emerge through the same tube if they are insulated from each other, the filling in this case being a non- metallic and not necessarily oxygen-absorbing (Fig. 3, not shown) powder or a cement.
