1440805 Regulating free-piston engines A MOIROUX and F BERNARD 4 July 1973 [7 July 1972] 33302/73 Heading F1B A free-piston engine comprises a compressionignition engine cylinder 4 and piston 1, a bounce piston 3 working in a cylinder 7 and a compressor piston 2 working in a cylinder which is divided by the piston into a compression chamber 5 and a chamber 6 which supplies combustion and scavenge air to the engine cylinder. The dimensions of the engine are within the proportions indicated by the following relationships, where c = compressor piston diameter, m = buffer piston diameter, M = engine cylinder diameter and C = compressor piston stroke.
