Abstract

1440399 Building panels K JOYNT 4 Aug 1975 [4 May 1974] 19716/74 Heading E1B [Also in Division B6] A load-bearing wall panel 16 comprises an outer wooden sheet 46, a wooden framework 40, 42, 44 and an external decorative and insulating coating comprising synthetic resin impregnated with asbestos and perlite. In the embodiment shown, base member 42 of the panel is fixed by coach bolts 62 to a hardwood sill 58, and a sheet of building paper 48 separates studs 40 and sheet 46 which is of resin bonded plywood, a plasticsfoil 52 providing a vapour barrier between the studs and an internal sheet 50 of plasterboard. Glass fibres 54 are arranged inside the panel. Windows may be incorporated in the panel. An undercoat is first used on sheet 46, and comprises inter alia a modified phenolic resin in an oil solvent in combination with Linseed oil. Top coats are then applied, and may include vinyl acetate copolymer resin in water. or a modified alkyd polyester resin in oil. with mica and glass fibres also included.
