Abstract

1339420 Casting processes UDDEHOLMS AB 7 Jan 1971 [7 Jan 1970] 886/70 Heading B3F [Also in Division C7] A TiC-containing carbide component is incorporated into a Fe, Co or Ni based alloy. This may be carried out by an electroslag process in which the carbide is included as a core in the electrode, Fig. 7 (not shown), is formed as a separate electrode attached to the main one, Fig. 9 (not shown), or is included in containers remote from the electrode, Fig. 10 (not shown) the heat from the slag causing melting of said containers. The process may also be carried out by mixing the carbide and alloy in a crucible 13 of aluminium oxide contained within a vacuum furnace and then lowering the crucible into a cooling chamber 5 so that cooling begins at the bottom of the crucible.
