Abstract
1339398 Supply circuits for discharge lamps PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 May 1972 [8 May 1971] 21027/72 Heading H2H A supply circuit for a low pressure mercury vapour lamp 3 includes a switch 11 to enable current to flow through the lamp for W seconds and to switch off the current for R seconds such that 0À35 < W/W + R < 0À65 and 2## E < W+ R < 2## D where # E is the energy relaxation time of the electrons in the discharge lamp and # D is the diffusion time of the electrons in the discharge lamp. The lamp, which also contains argon and neon at a maximum total pressure of 6 Torr, is connected across the diagonal of a bridge inverter circuit including transistors 7- 10 supplied from D.C. terminals 1, 2 via the switch 11 which comprises a transistor. A circuit 12 supplies control signals to terminals a-i so that an alternating current flows intermittently through the lamp at a high frequency.
