Abstract

1338158 Seals NIPPON SEIKO KABUSHIKI 29 July 1971 [29 July 1970] 35696/71 Heading F2B Sealing means for a needle roller bearing 2 of which the outer race 3 has a radial flange 31 spaced from a shoulder 11 on a trunnion 1 forming the inner race comprises a resilient sealing ring 5 substantially of C cross-section having a side wall 52, a dust lip 51 extending axially from the outer end of the wall, a cylindrical portion 53 integral with the inner end of the wall and a grease lip 55 extending obliquely radially outwardly from the free end 531 of the cylindrical portion. In use, Fig. 3, the ring tightly surrounds the trunnion with the wall 52 abutting the shoulder 11, the dust lip 51 contacting the outer periphery of the race 3 and the grease lip 55 deformed into sealing contact with the flange 31. The inner surface 551 of the lip 55 may be concave as shown in Fig. 4 and the ring may be of rubber or a synthetic resinous material reinforced by a U-section core 6. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the dust lip (51) is formed with a ridge (511) on its inner surface and the core (6) is L-section. In a further modification, Fig. 10, the grease lip 55 comprises a main lip 55a and an auxiliary lip 55b.
