Abstract
1336473 Gas turbine plant and combustion chambers A P PEDRICK 27 Nov 1972 11488/71 Headings F1L, F1G [Also in Division F4] A gas turbine has a compressor 1 which takes in air, and drives it along passages 1<SP>1</SP> to a compressor 2 which discharges the air into the space below a fire grate 4. Air flows through the grate into combustion space 5 from where it leaves through a centrifugal turbine 6 driving the compressors and central shaft 10. Granulated combustible material is fed from a hopper 11 into the combustion space 5 via a valve 13 which is speed governed by spring-loaded weights 14 on the shaft 10 acting against adjustable spring- loading 20. Valve 13 also controls the flow of an auxiliary liquid fuel supplied by pipes 18, 19. Shaft 10 drives a screw 22 via gears 25, 26 to discharge ash. Exhaust pipe 8 heats the incoming air in passages 1<SP>1</SP>. The gas turbine may be used to drive an electric generator for supplying a house or for driving a car via electric motors at the wheels. Alternative embodiments of gas turbine are described some of which are designed to run on granulated waste material.
