Abstract

1335114 Endless conveyers BUTZ ENG CORP 11 Oct 1971 [12 Oct 1970] 47304/71 Heading B8A A conveyer system comprises a platform 52 for feeding parcels, preferably pre-sorted, on to endless conveyers 50 which discharge on to selected sub-conveyers 56. A manually-operated console may electrically control pneumatic means for the discharge of the conveyers 50; or a programed console may be used. Conveyers 50 each consist of a series of carriages 64 secured to an endless chain 66, the carriages having dish-shaped trays 63 which may be tipped laterally for discharging. Rollers 160, 170 guide the carriages and a roller 186 which engages a track 144, 196, 198 controls the attitude of each tray 63. Track portions 144 maintain the trays horizontal but, by actuation of a pneumatic cylinder 236 (or 236<1>) a pivoted track section 208 (or 208<1>) will cause the roller 186 of a selected carriage 64 to be raised on to a track portion 196 or lowered on to a track portion (198) for tilting of the tray 63 to the left or right respectively. Gravity operated devices (268, 270, Figs. 22-26, and Figs. 29- 33, not shown) ensure that each tray is returned to its normal horizontal attitude after completion of a discharge action. At the end of the conveyer remote from a motor drive, Fig. 34 (not shown) a sprocket 68 for the chain 66 is mounted on a carriage 74 supported on rails 80 which are inclined such that tension is applied to the chain. Additional tension is provided by a cable 110 attached to a counterweight 116. The sub-conveyers 56 may have discharge shoots 58.
