Abstract

1335149 Knitting machines STOP-MOTION DEVICES CORP 3 March 1972 [10 June 1971] 10136/72 Heading D1C A knitting machine comprises a stop motion 26 with electrical switch means 130 operated upon breakage of the yarn emanating from a supply and having means to secure the stop motion 26 to a support member 98 and simultaneously to connect the switch means 130 to a power line. Positive yarn feed roller 14 is carried on a bracket 12 fitted over a support 10 and is driven by tape 16. Yarn 24 passes between roller 14 and tape 16 and through guide means 22 to a stop motion 26. Yarn guides 21, 22 each comprising two eyelets 31, 33 form an out of action lever to move the yarn out of engagement with 16. Two conducting strips 42, 44 are attached to an insulating strip 38 mounted in a recess 40 in support 10. Spring contact members 48, 50 connected to wires 64, 86 and separated by an insulating strip 52 and secured in hollow bracket 12 project so as to bear against strips 42, 44 when bracket 12 is in position. An out of action indicator 58, e.g. a lamp, is associated with the out of action lever and is controlled by a switch 132 comprising tongue member 60 secured to bracket 12 and connected to strip 42 by wire 64 and a movable ground bar 62 attached between guides 21, 22 so as to be lowered against member 60 when the yarns are lowered from between wheel 14 and tape 16. Wires 64, 86 in hollow 46 are coiled so that when the bracket 12 is provided with spacers (88, 90) Fig. 7 (not shown) to vary the height of wheel 14 there is sufficient wire without remaking connections. The wiring is thus completely protected. The stop motion 26 comprises a spring-biassed fly wire 83 carrying a yarn guide 91 and spaced aligned guides 93, 95, 97. Breakage of the yarn causes projections 87 to engage with contacts 89 i.e. closes switch 130. One end of wire 86 is connected to strip 44 and the other end is electrically connected to a conducting strip 102 mounted on but insulated from a support bar 98 attached by plate 100 to bracket 12. Stop motion 26 is mechanically and electrically connected to a bracket 114 which is secured to member 98 by a bolt so that a contact 122 on the stop motion engages strip 102. An indicator light 124 is included in the stop motion circuit. The stop motion 26 may be attached to support member by a snap-on device Fig. 6 (not shown). The stop motion alone would be carried on a support ring mounted directly on the knitting machine. Fig. 8 shows the, circuits for several feeds and each comprises switches 130, 132 comprising contacts 87, 89 in series with light 24 and contacts 60, 62.
