1333156 Dental syringes KALTENBACH & VOIGT 27 July 1972 [27 July 1971] 35251/72 Heading A5R A dental syringe for the selective supply of air, water or a spray of air and water from a cannula connected to the tip of the handpiece comprises an air conduit 6 with an associated control valve 8 and a water conduit 7 with an associated control valve 9, the valves 8, 9 being actuated by manipulating means 5, 4 respectively provided on an outer sleeve 2 of the syringe. The air conduit 6 connects through a change-over valve 28 with a branch duct 6a which ends concentrically with conduit 7 at the cannula outlet and conveys air for the air-water spray, and with a further duct 6b through which air passes for air-only supply from the cannula. The valve 28 is initially set to connect air conduit 6 with duct 6b and is actuated by the manipulating means 4 through control lever 12 from which extends a shoulder 17 abutting against the spindle of valve 28. When manipulating means 5 alone is operated, valve 8 is opened to allow passage of air from conduit 6 via duct 6b to outlet 27. When manipulating means 4 is operated alone, valve 9 opens to allow passage of water through conduit 7, and simultaneously valve 28 is operated to put air conduit 6 in communication with duct 6a but valve 8 prevents air flow therethrough. When manipulating means 4, 5 are operated simultaneously, an air-water spray issues from the cannula. A diaphragm pump 43 is arranged in water conduit 7 and is primed by actuation of control lever 12. The valves 8, 28 are arranged co-axially as an assembled component, and the pump 43 and valve 9 are arranged coaxially as a further assembled component, both components being detachably secured in the syringe. Means are provided for selectively heating the air and water supplied through the cannula.
