Abstract

1331394 Detecting web defects photoelectrically EASTMAN KODAK CO 25 June 1971 [29 June 1970] 29813/71 Heading G1A In a web inspection apparatus in which a line of radiation e.g. infrared is directed at a moving web 10 and specularly reflected and transmitted radiation is received by photo-cell arrays 20, 22 respectively, each array comprises a line of mutually insulated photo-cells with pairs of photo-cells in each array connected to respective differential devices each arranged to produce an output representing the difference between its inputs. An output from any differential device (34) actuates a relay (50) operative to produce an alarm and stop the machine, Fig.2 (not shown). Preferably each differential device does not receive the outputs of two adjacent photo-cells, which may be arranged in jig-saw fashion, Figs.5a,b (not shown).
