Abstract
1330361 Tubular heat exchangers UNION CARBIDE CORP 24 June 1971 [25 June 1970] 29621/71 Heading F4S In a shell and tube heat exchanger comprising a plurality of graphite tubes T extending between a pair of graphite tube plates 10, 12 within a composite shell, differential thermal expansion and contraction of the tubes is accommodated by axial movement of a minor portion 14 of the shell relative to the major portion S within which it is telescopingly received. The "floating" tube sheet 12 and its cover 20 is attached to the minor portion 14 by a clamping arrangement 18 including bolts 13. Gaskets 22, 24 and packing 16 are provided to prevent fluid leakage. The other tube sheet 10 and its cover 26 are rigidly attached to the shell S by bolts (not shown) passing through the flanges B.
