Abstract
1329257 Injection-blow moulding; lined containers SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 8 Sept 1970 42897/70 Heading B5A Lined thermoplastics containers are formed by injection-blow-moulding by injection-moulding first and second preforms, blow-moulding the first preform, inserting the second preform into the blow-moulded container while still in the mould, and blow-moulding the second preform to form a lining against the inner wall of the blow moulded container. As shown in the Figure, the apparatus comprises a turntable 10 on shaft 11 carrying two first injection cores 12, 15 and two second injection cores 13, 14, a first injection mould 18 and a second injection mould 19 opposite one another and two blow moulds 16, 17 also opposite one another. First and second preforms are injected on cores 12, 14 in moulds 18, 19 respectively while first and second preforms on cores 15, 13 are blown in moulds 17, 16 respectively, in the latter case to form a lining. After 90 degree clockwise rotation, the first and second preforms on cores 12, 14 are blown in moulds 16, 17 respectively, forming a lining in the latter case, while further first and second preforms are injected on cores 15, 13 in moulds 18, 19 respectively. Table 10 is then turned back 90 degrees anticlockwise for the subsequent similar stage. In this way, one article per operating position is produced, but, multi-cavity moulds may also be used.
