Abstract
1328043 Brakes GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 25 Feb 1972 8747/72 Heading F2E A brake disc for use as stator or rotor of a multi-disc brake assembly, is composed of a single-piece annular core 12 of beryllium which is faced on each side with wear plates 14 of a carbon-base material. The wear plates may be segmented or single-piece. The core plate has drive slots 16 at its inner or outer periphery (depending on application) which engage suitable keys or splines, and the wear plates are correspondingly notched at 18. Further notches 20 allow for thermal expansion. The wear plates are secured by rivets 28 in bushings 22. The carbon base may be of graphite or amorphous carbon, or carbides, such as boron, silicon or titanium carbide. Anti-oxidants, binders, fillers &c. may also be incorporated, and the material may be laminated or fibre-bonded. Preferably, the composition is 75% carbon by volume made up by tungsten metal and silicon carbide.
