Abstract
1325652 Spring upholstery D L ROWLAND 11 Jan 1972 [22 March 1971] 1266/72 Heading A4M [Also in Division D1] A chain 50 comprises a seat portion 62 (and/or back portion 63) secured to and between spaced apart rigid frame members 60, 61, the seat portion comprising a plurality of sinuous springs 70 disposed side by side so that they touch or nearly touch adjacent said springs 70, each spring 70 having a relaxed, unstressed condition defining a cylindrical arc which requires to be flattened when secured to the chair frame, means attached to or forming a part of the frame to locate and anchor the ends 76, 77 of the springs, and a sleevelike plastics coating 72 surrounding the springs 70, the frame 60, 61 and the means for locating the spring ends, the coating also serving to inter-connect adjacent springs where they touch or nearly touch. In one embodiment, Fig.3, the spring ends 76, 77 are located by tongues 74, 75 on a securing member 73 fixed to the frame 60. Other forms of securing member are described. Alternatively, e.g. as in Fig.14, the spring ends 110 may be located in notches 112 in the frame 111. Other forms of direct fixing to the frame are described as are numerous alternative forms of sinuosity of the springs. The spring ends may be bent or fishmouth shaped.
