Abstract

1324401 Crash restraint devices WALTER KIDDE CO Ltd 29 Dec 1970 [27 Jan 1970] 3971/70 Heading B7B [Also in Division F1] A vehicle crash restraint bag 1 is inflated by a mixture of pressurized gas and atmospheric air during rapid decleration. A gas inlet nozzle 14 is fitted with a two way valve and a nozzle 15 connected to the pressurized gas source and has openings through which air may be drawn during inflation. The two way valve allows deflation of the bag when the occupant of the vehicle presses against it thereby preventing rebound. Several bags (Fig. 5, not shown) may be inflated from the same source and may be suited in the facia or in the central steering column bass (Fig. 4, not shown). The gas source (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown) may comprise a liquified gas cylinder the seal of which is punctured by an explosively fired projectile actuated by an inertia switch.
