1323843 Corrugating J J ROBINSON 14 Jan 1972 [1 Feb 1971] 1840/72 Heading B3E A metal strip corrugating apparatus comprises a pair of dies 48, 58, Fig. 4, both mounted for vertical reciprocation and the lower die is also capable of horizontal reciprocation to effect feeding of the strip. The upper die 58 is mounted on a frame 34 which carries rollers 32 while the frame 37 for the lower die 48 carries rollers 31, which rollers engage the sides of a pair of longitudinal members 22 of a reciprocable rectangular frame 19-22. The rectangular frame is driven by a crank arm 28, Fig. 2, through a link 31 and slides on rails 24. The rectangular frame carries rollers 92 or abutments which engage a bar 83 and lugs 89 or a rod 84 at the ends of its stroke. The bar 83 and the rod 84 extend through side plates 11 of the apparatus to linkages for effecting the horizontal reciprocation of the lower die 43. Each linkage includes a latching member 96, Fig. 6, which engages an arm 99 to hold it in position when the bar 83 moves away from it under spring bias 91, Fig. 2. The latching member ensures that the dies 48, 58 are not moved relatively horizontally during movement of the rectangular frame 19-22 which effects the vertical reciprocation. In operation the strip 121, Fig. 10, is fed between the dies 48, 58 while both dies are in their lowermost position. The upper die 48 is kept stationary while the lower die 58 is raised to corrugate the strip. The tipper die is then raised, Fig. 12 (not shown), and the lower die is moved horizontally to effect a feeding stroke. With the lower die raised the upper die is lowered to effect a further corrugating stroke, Fig. 14 (not shown). The lower die is then lowered and returned horizontally while out of engagement with the strip. The longitudinal members 22 each have areas of dwell, A, B, C, Fig. 10, to ensure that the dies move separately and not simultaneously. The corrugations may be angular.
