Abstract

1321783 Monitoring reflectance MILES LABORATORIES Inc 11 Feb 1972 [11 March 1971] 6527/72 Heading G1A [Also in Division G2] An apparatus for illuminating a surface 54 and for monitoring the light reflected therefrom comprises a light source 38, a member 12 having a longitudinal passage 14, a light sensitive device, 50 and a plurality of optical fibres 34, the fibres generally surrounding and parallel to the member 12 and each having a bevelled end face so as to form collectively a flat annular surface 28 at which surface the optical axis of each fibre makes an angle of 45 degrees to the axis 19 of the passage 14. Reflected light is conveyed to the sensor 50 along further optical fibres 44. This latter group of fibres may be dispensed with, by locating the sensor in the passage 13.
