Abstract

1311408 Butyrolactones SOC ANON DES ETABS ROURE BERTRAND FILS & JUSTIN DUPONT 13 Sept 1971 [30 Oct 1970] 42491/71 Heading C2C Novel compounds of Formula I wherein R represents a tertiary alkyl group or a tetrahydropyranyl group are prepared by reacting 1,2-epoxy-2-methyl-but-3-ene with a malonic acid diester of formula RCO 2 CH 2 CO 2 R in the presence of a sodium alcoholate or sodium hydride. The compounds of Formula I may be further reacted with a strong acid as catalyst to form 2-methyl-2-vinyl-5-oxo-tetrahydrofuran.
