Abstract
1310632 Heat-treating titanium alloys GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 4 June 1971 [2 Nov 1970] 18988/71 Heading C7A An alpha-beta alloy is pre-conditioned by heating to a temperature within the range of 50‹ F below to 100‹ F above the beta transus until equilibrium is reached, followed by cooling to room temperature. It may then be reheated to a temperature in the alpha-beta field and 50-150‹ F below the pre-conditioning temperature to precipitate large acicular alpha and cooled to room temperature at a rate to produce the desired mechanical properties, possibly followed by ageing. Preferred temperature ranges are pre-conditoning at 1400- 1850‹ F, reheating at 1550-1675‹ F and ageing at 1000-1300‹ F, Exemplified arc treatment of Ti- 6Al-2 Sn-3 Zr-4 Mo-4 V at 1625-1640‹ F + 1550‹ + 1100‹ F, Ti-6Al-4 V at 1775‹+1675+1000‹ F and Ti-6Al-2 Sn-4 Zr-6 Mo at 1700‹+1550+1100‹F.
