1310680 Machine safty device BRITISH DOMESTIC APPLIANCES Ltd 14 Oct 1970 [20 Oct 1969] 51301/69 Heading F2J A spin dryer or similar machine has a safety device to prevent operation unless the door is closed and to lock the door during operation. The machine has a door 41, Fig. 4, an on/off switch arm 55 and a main switch 12. An arm 43 is attached to the door hinge pin 44 and as the door closes engages the switch 12. A follower 45 on the arm 43 engages a lever 46 to pivot it down to release a brake through a cable 10 as the door closes but the lever 46 can return and thus prevent starting as the follower 45 enters a slot 66 unless it is then held by latch 52 which is only in position if the arm 55 is in the on position. As the door is closed with the arm 55 in the on position the latch 52 is tensioned towards its operative position by a spring 61 but is held from moving by a cam 54 on the door. As the closed position is approached the lever 46 moves the switch 12 to an operable position but when the follower 45 enters the slot 66 the cam 54 releases the latch 52 which prevents return of the lever 46 and the arm 43 can continue movement to operate the switch 12 to start the machine. If the arm 55 was in the off position the latch 52 would not be tensioned to move to its operative position and as the follower 45 entered the slot 66 the lever 46 would be released and starting would be prevented. Weights 17, Fig. 2 pivoted on a collar 19 of the motor shaft 15 move out as the motor speed increases and by an extension 27 of a plunger 23 moves a lever 28 which through a cable 30 actuates a door lock and by a plunger 32 activates an isolating switch 33 of an auxiliary circuit of the motor. A spring loaded plunger 35 gives a snap out action to the lever 28 between its two positions.
