Abstract
1310425 Coating surfaces BLUNDELLPERMOGLAZE Ltd 27 Oct 1971 [28 July 1970] 36371/70 Heading B2E A method of stoving a paint or lacquer film on a heat-sensitive surface comprises (a) applying heat from a hot radiant gas for a period of ¢ a second to 120 seconds, (b) allowing the film to dry by loss of solvent and/or to cure or otherwise harden without application of heat or cooling gas for a period of ¢ a second to 120 seconds and (c) cooling with air or other gas for 8 seconds to 250 seconds. The method is particularly of use for treatments on wood substrates. The process may be preceded by solvent evaporation stage in which the film is treated with fast stream of warm air. The hot radiant gas is preferably non-luminous. It may be obtained by burning coal gas, natural gas, propane or butane with a suitable proportion of air, normally 80% to 200% of the volume required for the electrical combustion. The gases may be burnt in a region distant from the surface to be treated at the surface of a carborundum-lined tube. The gases are then conveyed to the work site by lagged ducting. Alternatively, the coal gas or hydrocarbon gas with entrained air is passed through a porous metal sheet to produce a uniform flame across the upper surface of the sheet. The lacquor may be an alkyd amino material.
