Abstract

1309581 Polymer compositions BP CHEMICALS Ltd 11 May 1970 [19 May 1969] 22559/70 Headings C3G and C3P Polymer compositions are prepared by mixing an aqueous latex of a polymer having a glass transition temperature above 20‹C. stabilized with a carboxylic acid salt emulsifying agent with vinyl -chloride monomer, destroying the emulsifying agent without increasing the size of the polymer particles so that these pass into the monomer phase and polymerizing the monomer. Preferably the vinyl chloride is polymerized in suspension in the water of the polymer latex using a protective colloid, e.g. polyvinyl alcohol. In examples the polymer is (1) and (3) stryene/ acrylonitrile, (2) ABS (4) polymethylmethacrylate. The emulsifying agent is destroyed with an acid.
