Abstract
130,915. Hewens, A. C. N. Feb. 26, 1919. Board games.-A portable board for chess and draughts is such that a game in progress may be stopped when desired and resumed at will without removal of the pieces. It comprises a box in three compartments 3, 4, the compartments 3 serving to store the pieces and, by means of their sliding lids, to hold in place the playing board 8. The playing-board is reversible so that on an interruption of the game, the plain lower face of the board may be brought uppermost, the pieces being allowed to remain in the board. The board 8, Fig. 8, may be pivoted to slides 6 each of which runs in a groove and allows the board. to be reversed. The board rests upon the lower edges of the inwardly extending grooves. When the slides are at the ends of the grooves they transfix the sliding lid of the adjacent compartment and securethat lid in place, the lid of the opposite compartment then being capable of removal. The pivots and slides may be dispensed with and the board reversed without their aid. The pieces are each provided with a basal peg which enters a hole 19 in the squares of the board, and is gripped by resilient material 21 such as rubber in theform of rings.
