Abstract

1309149 Substituted phenyl acrylates and fungicidal uses thereof ASPRO-NICHOLAS Ltd 21 May 1971 [21 May 1970] 24742/70 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R represents hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl, R 1 represents hydrogen, methyl or ethyl. These compounds may be obtained by acylating phydroxy benzoic acid or C 1-4 alkyl ester thereof with a corresponding acylating agent such as CH 2 = CR 1 -CO.hal or (CH 2 = CR 1 CO) 2 O, wherein R 1 has the same significance as above. The following compounds are prepared in the examples: 4-acryloxy benzoic acid; methyl 4- acryloxy benzoate; ethyl 4-acryloxy benzoate; n-propyl 4-acryloxy benzoate; methyl 4-methacryloxy benzoate; n-propyl 4-methacryloxy benzoate; n-butyl 4-methacryloxy benzoate. The invention also comprises an anti-fungal composition comprising at least one 4-acryloxybenzoic acid or ester of above formula together with a diluent or carrier therefor.
