Abstract
1308524 Producing wood wool BAU-UND FORSCHUNGSGEESLLSCHAFT THERMOFORM AG 28 April 1970 [29 April 1969] 20399/70 Heading B5L A method of producing wood wool 3 comprises slicing successive sheets 41 from a block of wood 5, allowing the sheets to drop on to a supporting surface, moving the supporting surface so that the sheets are deposited thereon in superimposed staggered relationship like fish scales, and are moved by said motion towards a wool cutting station, and continually cutting wood wool from the superimposed sheets at said station. In a machine described for performing the method, wood blocks 5 are fed vertically downwards by toothed rollers 9 on to the upper face of a rotary planning tool 11 having a plurality of angularly spaced cutter blades. Sheets 41 cut from the blocks by the blades fall on to an inclined endless conveyer 37 travelling at such a speed that the sheets lie in superposed staggered relationship. The sheets are maintained in this relationship by an endless belt 39 until they reach the wool cutting station which comprises a fixed blade 63 and a rotary drum cutter 58. Ribbons cut by the cutter 58 fall on to a convey 71. The drum cutter 58 may be replaced by a disc cutter similar to tool 11 or a vertically reciprocated blade. The conveyer 37 may comprise a plurality of endless belts, and a pair of orbiting fingers may pass between the belts to accurately locate the sheets 41 thereon. The tool 11 may include passages through which air may be passed to urge the cut sheets 41 down on to the conveyer 37.
