1308095 Benzodiazepines SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [11 March 1970 16 March 1970 (2) 2 Sept 1970 4 Sept 1970] 23669/71 Heading C2C Compounds of the general formula (R 1 = H, halogen, NO 2 , CF 3 , C 1-4 alkoxy; R 2,3 = H, C 1-4 alkyl, halogen, CF 3 ; R 4 = H, C 1-4 alkyl, Ph, aralkyl ; n = 1-4) and their salts are prepared by hydrolysing a compound of the formula (R = carboxylic acyl, tetrahydrofuryl, tetrahydropyranyl) or salt thereof, optionally followed by salt formation. The starting materials are prepared by (a) oxidizing a compound of the formula or (b) reacting a compound of the formula with a compound of the formula optionally followed in either case by salt formation.
