Abstract

1306422 Fuel injection pumps ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 17 April 1970 [19 April 1969] 18352/70 Heading F1A In a fuel injection pump in which rotary and reciprocatory motion of a piston 3 is transmitted to a pumping plunger 4 via, respectively, a coupling 6 and fuel in a chamber 5 between the piston and plunger, the chamber 5 is connected by a spill port 20 to a suction chamber 10 via an electromagnetically actuated valve-member 35 which closes to determine the commencement of the pumping stroke of the plunger 14. On the suction stroke fuel is supplied via lines 19 and 20 to chamber 5, and via line 11 and grooves 13, 14, 15 to the pumping chamber 7, the line 11 being controlled by an electromagnetic valve 12. At the start of the pumping stroke fuel is spilled from chamber 5 through line 20 until valvemember 35 is actuated by a control device whereupon injection commences. When the lower edge 22 of plunger 4 uncovers a groove 23 fuel spills from the chamber 5 and injection is terminated A member 28, 30 screwed at 29 into a plug 8 acts as a stop to limit the maximum delivery and is adjusted by means of a rotary electromagnet 27. In another embodiment line 11 is controlled by an electromagnetic throttle valve, and passage 20 is controlled by a spool valve which moves to close the passage when the pressure in chamber 5 reaches a certain value.
