Abstract
1305908 Weapon fire control system EMI Ltd 1 June 1970 [10 June 1969] 29458/69 Heading F3C [Also in Division H4] A weapon fire control system comprises a detecting means, preferably a radar detecting means, for detecting a projectile in flight and for determining the trajectory of the projectile and a weapon. The weapon may be mounted so that it can fire in any one of a plurality of directions or the weapon may comprise a plurality of projectiles each firable in a different fixed direction, the arrangement according to the invention being such that the weapon is automatically fired in the direction of the source of the projectile when the detecting means determines that the projectile is aimed at the weapon mounting. In the construction shown the unit 1 is an electronically steerable aerial transmitting array energized by a coherent pulse or continuous wave transmitter 3. An electronically steerable receiving aerial array 4 for receiving reflected transmitted signals energizes a receiver unit 6. The receiver unit 6 feeds a Doppler filtering unit 8 which in combination with a computer 11 over two successive scans of the projectiles calculates whether a projectile is being aimed at the weapon mounting and, if it is, the weapon or one of the weapons is energized to return the fire.
