Abstract
1303113 Operating discharge lamps LUTRON ELECTRONICS CO Inc 13 July 1970 [23 July 1969] 33841/70 Heading H2H An operating circuit for a discharge lamp comprises a pulse generator 62 driven by a D.C. or low frequency A.C. source connected in series with a discharge lamp 64 and an oscillating network 63 connected in parallel across the lamp. As shown the oscillating network comprises two inductances 71, 72 in series and in parallel respectively with a capacitor 73, the impedance of the network being such that pulses from 62 cause ringing thereby operating the lamp at higher frequency. A plurality of lamps (100)-(102), Fig. 14 (not shown), may be operated in parallel from a single pulse generator, a suitable circuit for which is described with respect to Fig. 13 (not shown). Alternatively the lamp may be connected in series with a pair of back-to-back thyristors operated by a pulse timing circuit which circuit may be adapted to vary the pulse length or repetition frequency inversely with a varying power input, and a plurality of lamps may be connected in parallel, each in series with a pair of SCR's which may be adapted to conduct current pulses sequentially.
