Abstract

1301362 4 - 4<SP>1 </SP>- Bis - triazinylamino-stilbene derivatives CIBA-GEIGY AG 8 April 1970 [9 April 1969] 16719/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] α- and #-crystalline forms of a 4,4<SP>1</SP>-bis-triazinylamino-stilbene derivative of formula wherein R is methyl or ethyl, y is 2 or 3 and X is 7 for the alpha form and 1 or 2 for the beta form are obtained from an aqueous solution of its amorphous form of pH higher than 7 by (a) for the alpha form crystallizing from this solution containing 1 to 2À5% by volume of a watersoluble sodium salt at 20‹ to 70‹ C., and (b) for the beta form, heating the solution containing 23 to 35% by weight calculated on the water of a water-soluble sodium salt and an inert and at least partially water-soluble organic solvent. The crystalization may be accelerated by the addition of seed crystals, while in (b) the organic solvent may be removed by distillation before crystallization. The products may be used as optical brighteners (see Division C5).
