Abstract

1301084 Warning lamps B WHITEHEAD 6 Jan 1970 [11 Jan 1969] 1758/69 Heading F4R A warning lamp suitable for insertion into the top of a road hazard cone comprises a transparent or translucent tubular holder 10 containing a disc 12 which supports a bulbholder 16 and terminals 18, the disc being made of harder material than the tubular holder so that it produces an external protrusion or dilation 14 around the holder. The disc and the holder are both made of plastics material and one end of the holder is formed with a flap 24 which can be folded over and secured to the other side of the tube by a rivet 26 thereby leaving two gaps 27 for twin core cables 28. The cables are sheathed by flexible fluorescent plastics tubes 30 secured to the holder by the rivet 26 and extend to further similar holders so that a string of warning lamps connected in parallel is obtained. Each lamp has a flexible fluorescent plastics jacket 34 which can be slipped off the lamp by sliding it along the cables, the lamp then being pushed into the round hole (38) at the top of a hazard cone so that the dilation 14 expands the hole resiliently and prevents unintentional withdrawal of the lamp. In alternative arrangements the lamps may be slung around road hazards or laid on the road surface without being inserted into cones or may be worn on the person.
