Abstract

1301050 Spring biased hinges US INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS CORP 8 Dec 1971 57012/ 71 Addition to 1258968 Heading E2F A hinge biassed by a spring towards selfclosing or self-opening comprises a first member 1, attached to a wing W and secured to a second member 2 attached to a frame F by a pin 3. The first member is formed with a tongue 4 which curls around the pin and the second member with a socket 5 in which moveable member 6 slides in a path normal to the pin. The moveable member is spring biased towards the pin e.g. by coil springs 7 received in recesses 8 acting against the bottom of socket 5. The tongue 4 at its outer parts 4' extend sufficiently far round the pin to secure the second member to it, the central part 4" is however recessed. As shown when the tongue is between the pin 3 and the moveable member 6 it holds the latter away from the pin against the force of the spring however as the hinge closes a point is reached at which the rebated central edge 4" of the tongue 4 makes contact between the tongue 4 and member 6 whereby the latter then moves towards the pin under the influence of the spring. The moveable member may be made from plastics e.g. nylon. The first and second members may be made of sheet metal or diecast e.g. from a zinc alloy.
