Abstract

1399939 Riveting AERPAT AG 25 Aug 1972 [30 Aug 1971] 39825/72 Heading B3U A manually operated tool for setting a threaded insert 61, 62 comprises a hollow body 11, an anvil 34 at one end of the body 11 for engaging an insert to be set, a rotatable and reciprocable shaft 24 positioned within the bore of the body 11 and provided with means 28 for threadedly engaging the insert and a cam 48 which bears against bearing means 46 carried by a member 17 and which is rotatable by a-handle 52 about a transverse axis 47 fixed to the shaft 24 to cause relative axial movement between the shaft 24 and body 11. The anvil 34 is releasably mounted on the tool body 11 by a spring ball detent 36. Extending through a bore of the anvil 34 is a screw 28 which carries a washer 32 and a square nut 31 which are respectively accommodated within a U-shaped slot and a square section aperture at one end of the shaft 24 so as to be releasably connected therewith. The other end of the shaft 24 is bifurcated to provide two side portions (41, 42) (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) each having a slot 44, through which passes a pin 45 mounting a roller 46 and carried by a sleeve 17 which is releasably retained by a spring clip 19 within the bore of the body 11 against a steel washer 23. The roller 46 is urged by springs into contact with a cam 48 which is integral with a handle 52 and which is mounted by a pin 47 on the end of the shaft 24. In operation, the screw 28 is engaged with a tapered nut portion 61 of the insert to be set in a sheet 64 and the handle 52 moved about the pivot pin 47 away from a handle 51 through an arc of 180 degrees to cause the shaft 24 to be retracted and the nut portion 61 to be pulled into a cylindrical portion 62 of the insert. Alternatively, the cam handle 52 is rotated about the pin 47 until it is aligned with the bore of the body 11, rotated through 180 degrees about its own longitudinal axis and then moved back towards the handle 51 about the pin 47 (Figs. 5-7, not shown). Spare screws 28 may be accommodated in threaded holes (65) (Fig. 1, not shown) in the handle 51.
