1399089 α-Oximino-carboxylic acid derivatives GLAXO LABORATORIES Ltd 12 May 1972 [14 May 1971] 697/75 Divided out of 1399086 Heading C2C Novel carboxylic acids having the general Formula (I) wherein R is hydrogen or an organic group and R<SP>a</SP> is an etherifying monovalent organic group linked to the oxygen atom through a carbon bond, and salts, esters and N-acylating derivatives of the said acids, the compounds having the syn isomeric form as regards the configuration of the group OR<SP>a</SP> with respect to the carboxy group, or being a mixture wherein the syn isomer predominates, are prepared by either (a) reacting a glyoxylic acid of formula or an ester thereof, with a compound of formula R<SP>a</SP>.ONH 2 or a salt thereof; or (b) reacting a compound of formula or an ester thereof, with an etherifying agent to introduce the group R<SP>a</SP>; and then recovering the desired compound (I), if necessary after separation of syn and anti isomers, and if desired converting the product to a salt or an N- acylating derivative of the acid.
