Abstract
1398883 Thermal storage heaters WITTE HAUSTECHNIK GmbH 25 Aug 1972 [26 Aug 1971] 39845/72 Heading H5H [Also in Division F4] A heating element is made by embedding a resistor 3 in a mass containing at least 90% magnesite or corundum 2 and sintering to produce a solid body. Alkali-poor clay, bentonite or caustic magnesite may be used with the magnesite or corundum as binder. In one example the mass had the following composition: 3À5% SiO 2 ; 1À8% Al 2 O 3 ; 0À7% Fe 2 O 3 ; 2À5% CaO and 92À5% MgO. In another example the mass had the following composition: 93% Al 2 O 3 ; 3À1% SiO 2 ; 2À5% TiO 2 ; 0À3% Fe 2 O 3 ; 0À2% CaO; 0À7% MgO; 0À06% Na 2 O and 0À12% K 2 O. Sintering was effected in a calcining oven or by passing current through resistor 3 which may be an alloy of G-Fe and Al. The element is in turn embedded in a thermal storage mass 1 to form a storage heater. The storage mass 1 may incorporate heat conducting particles, e.g. metal chips, metal oxides, or sodium carbide.
