Abstract

1397427 Vehicle headlamps CIBIE PROJECTEURS 12 July 1972 [3 Aug 1971] 32588/72 Heading F4R A sealing cap to protect the back of the optical unit of a vehicle headlamp comprises a dished central member 10 made of a rigid heat-resistant material and an annular resilient skirt 20 attached to the periphery of the member 10 to engage the rear surface of the reflector R. The member 10 has a peripheral flange 13 which is resiliently gripped by the skirt 20 and an inner annular flange 14 provided with three inwardly directed angularly spaced lips 14b which engage behind the mounting lugs a of the bulb L in bayonet-joint fashion to retain the cap in position against the resilience of the skirt. The member 10 may have a central aperture 12, as shown, to receive the base of the bulb or may alternatively contain an electrical connector for the bulb so that the bulb is located wholly within the cap. The bulb may be of the turon-filament tungsten-halogen type.
