Abstract
1397369 Measuring instruments, theodolites WILD HEERBRUGG AG 4 Sept 1973 [5 Sept 1972] 41623/73 Headings G1F and G1J A measuring instrument such as a theodolite is provided with a scale 3 and a semi-conductor diode 7 for illuminating the scale. As shown, the instrument may be provided with a telescope 5 rotatably mounted about a horizontal axis on a support housing 4 which is rotatable about a vertical axis relative to a'tripod 1. Scales 3, 6 indicate the position of the telescope about the vertical and horizontal axes respectively, the latter scale being illuminated by a semi-conductor diode 8. An optical system comprising lenses 11, 12, 14, 15 and a prism 9 enables an observer to view simultaneously, by way of a microscope 10, both images of the scales 3, 6 on a plate 9. The semi-conductor diodes 7, 8 which may emit different monochromatic beams may be connected by way of a time-switch 17 to a battery 21 sealed in a chamber 20 within the support housing 4. The time-switch which may comprise an R-C circuit may be adjusted so that when a button 18 is pressed, the diodes 7, 8 are energized for a predetermined period to allow the associated scales 3, 6 to be read.
