Abstract

1396149 Spray carburetters; stop gear FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 21 Nov 1972 [3 Dec 1971] 53690/72 Headings F1B and F1K Running-on is prevented by admitting air into the carburetter idling mixture passage 40 to terminate fuel flow through the passage to the induction passage 14 downstream of the throttle valve 36. A spring-biased valve 62 controlling air inlet conduits 52, 54 opening to the passage 40 is operated by a diaphragm 72 subject on opposite sides to the vacuum in the passage 14 downstream of the valve 36 through a conduit 78 containing a flow restricting orifice 84 and a vacuum reservoir 82 and a portion of the conduit 78 and a conduit 86, respectively. The conduit 78 also subjects the diaphragm 94 of a valve 92 to vacuum, the valve opening the outlet 90 of a conduit 58a connected to the air cleaner 20 at over-running with a high vacuum downstream of the'valve 36. In operation, the valve 62 opens the conduits 52, 54 when the vacuum downstream of the valve 36 rises quickly as the result of falling engine speed due to switching-off of the engine, ignition or when the vacuum is high due to over-running and the valve 92 opens the outlet 90. In both cases the vacuum acting in the diaphragm chamber 68 becomes less than that in the diaphragm chamber 70 and the pressure difference across the diaphragm 70 opens the valve 62.
