1394968 Slider for a slide fastener TEXTRON INC 17 Sept 1973 [18 Sept 1972] 43496/ 73 Heading E2S A slider 22 for a slide fastener comprises a pair of wings 24, 26 disposed in spaced parallel relation to each other, each of said wings having front and rear portions, a spacer 28 disposed between and interconnecting the front portions of said wings whereby said wings define a generally Y-shaped channel, first and second pairs of opposing flanges, projecting respectively from opposite lateral edges of said wings toward each other and terminating in spaced relation to each other to define slot means therebetween, first means on said opposing flanges defining a minimum dimension for said slot means, and second means on said opposing flanges increasing the dimension of said slot means at the rear portions of said wings. As shown, the side flanges 32, 42 and 52, 62 extend perpendicularly from the sides of the respective wings 26, 24 each flange being of identical shape and having, as described for the flange 32, a front portion 34 of uniform thickness and having a substantially planar upper surface 34 and a rear portion which is tapered to present a sloping surface 36. The opposed flanges 32, 52, and 42, 62 define slots through which the adjacent portions of carrier tapes 12, 14, Fig. 1, are located. The gaps between the planar surfaces 34, 54, and 44, 64 being small enough to provide optimum performance characteristics of the slide fastener and the diverging faces 36, 56 and 46, 66 being such that, at the rear of the slider, compressing forces of the wings 24, 26 can be absorbed without any binding of the carrier tapes. The wings 24, 26 are joined at their front end by a spacer 28 which terminates in a 'V' notch 30. In a modification, Fig. 4, each side flange is chamfered such as at 138, 148 along its inner edge.
