Abstract
1393794 Optical direction finders SIEMENS AG 19 May 1972 [30 June 1971] 23655/72 Heading H4D An illumination system in which a spotlight directs a beam on to a moving object which carries a marker reflecting energy of a different wavelength to the beam, to a detector whose output causes a control device to track the object with said beam. In a theatre, a spotlight tracks an actor who carries a retroreflector. A beam of laser light outside the visible spectrum is situated in the centre of the spot beam and is reflected to a divided detector 12 which produces direction control signals for the spotlight. Several actors may be tracked with separate spots by using differently modulated laser beams and selective filters at the detector. The detectors may utilize rotating graticules for direction finding and sound or microwave energy may be used.
