Abstract

1393582 Blankets for printing presses ADDRESSOGRAPH MULTIGRAPH CORP 6 June 1972 [9 June 1971] 26378/72 Heading B6C An offset cylinder blanket comprises a substrate, which may be of paper, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinylchloride, nylon, polystyrene or polyethylene terephthalate, and a coating of a natural or synthetic rubber, carbon black and hydrated colloidal clay. Suitable rubbers include polyisobutylene, polyisoprene, polyisoprene, polybutadiene, butyl rubber, butadiene-styrene copolymers and butadieneacrylonitrile copolymers. The clay may be fire clay, pipe clay, kaolin, potter's clay or bentonite, and the coating may also include a polyvinyl resin such as polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl butyral, polyvinyl chloride or polyvinyl dichloride 2-Nitropropane, ethyl acetate toluene, acetone, methyl isobutyl ketone, methyl ethyl ketone and ethyl butyl ketone may be used as solvents in preparing the coating. The carbon black used may be 0À02% to 25% of the weight of the rubber, the polyvinyl resin up to 50% and the clay 1À5% to 30%. After use, the blanket is discarded without cleaning.
