Abstract

1392191 Electrograining aluminium ALCAN RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd 6 July 1972 [9 July 1971] 32438/71 Heading C7B Aluminium is electro-etched prior to anodizing for use as lithographic printing plates using A.C. current in an electrolyte containing 2-20 gm/l hydrochloric acid and 1.5-15 gm/l phosphoric acid. The counter-electrode may be of graphite, or both electrodes may be of aluminium to be treated. Continuous aluminium strip may be electro-etched by passage through two electrolyte compartments each containing a counter-electrode connected to a terminal of an A.C. source with the strip forming an intermediate bipolar electrode.
