Abstract

1391211 Control of restarting spinning in open-end spinning machines SKF KUGELLAGERFABRIKEN GmbH 21 June 1972 [21 June 1971] 29116/72 Heading DID A method of restarting spinning, when a break occurs, in an open-end spinning machine comprises reversing delivery rollers to feed back spun thread to the spinning rotor to recommence spinning, the delivery rollers being then reversed again to draw off spun thread. The second reversal occurs after a predetermined time lapse which is shorter than the time in which a trimmed end of thread is fed from a cutting device to the spinning rotor to pick up further thread spun in the spinning rotor. The apparatus for performing this method comprises a drive roller 5 which during normal spinning is borne on by and drives a feed roller 4a. On thread breakage as detected by an electronic stop motion 2 a control device 20 through actuators 28 and 19 respectively tilts the spinning head to disengage the rotor, opener and feed roller drives and rocks a lever 16 to disengage feed roller 4a which hence also stops. Brakes 17 and 18 are provided to quickly stop rotation. A cutter 7 severs the thread and the cut off end and excess fibre in the spinning chamber are sucked away by a low pressure source 32. After a delay timed by the control device 20 actuator 19 brings a second delivery roller 4b to bear on drive roller 5 and thus reverse feeds the cut thread end. When the thread end reaches stop motion 2 a signal is generated and the control device 20 restarts the mechanisms of the spinning head and switches on a constantly driven pulse generator 37. After a predetermined number of pulses, by which time the thread end will have entered the spinning rotor, actuator 19 moves lever 16 to re-engage the forward delivery roller 4a and hence restart normal spinning. A thread reserve lever 11 takes up excess thread due to momentary slipping of the thread package 21 on reversal.
