Abstract
1390782 Tubular heat exchange elements NORANDA METAL INDUSTRIES Inc 2 March 1972 51818/74 Divided out of 1390781 Heading F4S A longitudinal heat-exchange tubing 10 comprises a peripheral metal wall (12) Fig. 1 (not shown), having two opposite spaced wall sections 18 and two opposite side wall sections (20) joining the opposite spaced wall sections formed by partially flattening a circular blank (see Division B3), spaced metal fins 14 projecting inwardly of the tubing from the wall sections and extending longitudinally of the tubing, wherein the fins on either of the spaced wall sections are inclined to the longitudinal axis of the tubing so that the fins on one spaced wall section are inclined and cross the fins on the other spaced wall section, and the fins on either of the spaced wall sections extend with their tips 16, Fig. 2, beyond the level of the tips of the fins on the other spaced wall section but are spaced therefrom. The opposed fins may be brazed together at their crossing points. The tubing may be bent to form transversely curved tubing (94), Fig. 8 (not shown), twisted tubing (90), Fig. 7 (not shown), or tubing (98) which has been bent both longitudinally and transversely, Fig. 9 (not shown). The tubing may be provided with helically or axially extending outer fins 108, Fig. 10, as well as inner fins 106. Heat-exchange units are formed by connecting casings (58), (60), Fig. 5 (not shown), to the ends of a piece of tubing. Slots provided in the casings for reception of the tubing may be rectangular or circular in cross-section.
