Abstract

1389668 Quilts FIOS GROUP Ltd 18 May 1972 [3 June 1971] 18833/71 Heading A4S [Also in Division B5] A continental quilt comprises a filling of thermal insulating material on the form of a coherent sheet or strip 3 and lines of stitching 6 passing through the filling to restrain the material of the filling against internal movement while being sufficiently loose that the pressure of the material against the stiches maintains uniform insulation over the width of the filling. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the quilt has a casing in the form of two sheets 1 and 2, the filling being divided into channels 4 by lines of loose stitches 6 locked to the casing at points 7 and 8. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the stitches 6 are locked at 10 and 11 into a number of elongate pairs of parallel strips 9, the strips of each pair being disposed on opposite sides of the filling, the tapes being optionally stitched to the layers 1 and 2 of the casing. The filling may comprise natural or synthetic fibres.
