Abstract

1385236 Control of printers DATA INTERFACE Inc 18 April 1972 [30 April 1971] 17859/72 Heading G4H [Also in Divisions B6 and H4] Printer control circuitry includes provision for the printer to be used for 12-line mosaic alphanumeric or for facsimile printing. Data supplied to the printer includes a CHAR/FAX code determining the form of printing in operation, to operate a data switch 112 controlling either a parallel to serial converter 118 if facsimile printing is required or a character generator 120 if alphanumeric printing is required. The CHAR/ FAX code also determines the length of line feed. The character generator 120 comprises a read only memory (210, Fig. 9, not shown) containing data for each character to be printed, a storage buffer (204) identifying a character to be printed, and a clock (212) operating through a latching gate (214) and dividers (216) to identify the columns of a character to be printed. The system may be linked to a television receiver.
