Abstract
1384023 X-ray tubes SPETSIALNOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE BJURO RENTGENOVSKOIAPPARATURY 21 March 1973 13645/73 Heading HID An X-ray tube (e.g. for use in an X-ray microscope or non-dispersive X-ray analysis of light elements) includes thermoemissive cathode 2 concentrically around anode 3, concentric focusing electrode 4, outlet window 5 for X-rays 15 emitted from anode 3, and negative-potential screen 6 electrically separating anode and cathode from the window to prevent cathode material deposition on the latter and also providing additional electron focusing. Preferably screen 6 is electrically connected to electrode 4 and also the window (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). The anode may be flat ended (Fig. 2, not shown) or pointed, the angle of sharpening and curvature controlling focusing, as also does the toroidal cathode diameter. Opening 7 diameter is selected to protect window 5 from cathodematerial vapour and the envelope need not have an opening 8 behind Be window 5. Fig. 3 includes electrically conducting end (12) connected to cylinder (10) forming the screen, and with counterbore opening (14) containing soldered Be window (11). Fig. 4 (not shown), similar to Fig. 3, has flat ended cathode (9). Tube operation is discussed. Preferably electrode 4 and cathode 2 terminate in the same plane, as preferably does the anode.
