Abstract

1376332 Window and breaking means CIBA-GEIGY AG 12 Nov 1971 [13 Nov 1970] 52760/71 Heading E1J A window includes a pane of safety glass 3 (preferably thermally prestressed) and a hard point or knife edge 7 mounted either in contact with, or spaced a distance d from the pane's surface, d being less than the maximum distance the pane can flex without breaking; thus, an abnormally high pressure (e.g. due to an explosion) will flex the pane into contact with the point 7 and shatter it before an unduly high pressure has built up. The tip 7 is preferably of diamond, sapphire or metal and is adjustably mounted (by a screw and grab 6, 9) on an arm which is connected to the frame and extends either right across, or part way across, the pane. The pane may be resiliently mounted in the frame.
