Abstract

1374036 Photo-finishing apparatus EASTMAN KODAK CO 17 April 1972 [16 April 1971] 17634/72 Heading G2X A plurality of photographic copies 22 produced from a plurality of originals 38 has marks 74, 80, 82 thereon to facilitate packaging and identification of which of the plurality of originals that when printed produced an unacceptable copy. Mark 74 is applied by an operator after visual determination that the copy is unacceptable, mark 80 indicates each copy and upon detection allows a cutter to cut the copy along line 56 and mark 82 indicates the last copy in each order. The marks alter the reflection characteristics of the surface of the copy material and are detected by three photo-cells 66. A roll 24 of copies is positioned in a workcentre 10 and the strip 22 fed to a cutter 26. Upon detection of a mark 80 the cutter is operated and the severed copies collected in a tray 36. At the same time the strip of corresponding originals 38 are fed and cut into lengths of e.g. four originals and held at 41. Upon detection of a mark 76, the print carrying the mark is fed to a track 32 and at the same time an indicator 42 is lit to signify in which length of originals the original which gave rise to the unacceptable print is located. The original may be examined over an illuminated panel 44 and the reprinting conditions determined. The feed of prints and originals is stopped upon detection of mark 82 which indicates the end of an order. The operator then gathers the severed prints and originals and stuffs them into an envelope 52 dispensed from the workcentre. The total cost of the order is displayed at station 18 using a pricing card 48 and the cost written by the operator on the envelope. The operating sequence is controlled by a digital logic circuit which is cleared upon the commencement of the next order by the operator.
